To anybody on the fence about buying the KA17 or not, I'd say go for it... for the price it's really excellent, really light as well so easy to carry around with you. I have the iFi Go Kensei as well but if I had to pick one I'd pick the FiiO due to the sound you get for the cost.
That's one point I keep going back and forth, I feel there wasn't too much I gained when I got the Kensei. I already had the KA17.
At least the wooden box is pretty.
The KA17 is a killer cost/benefit ratio, absolutely impressive on that regard. Can compete with products twice the price.
I think the only things a successor can improve upon is on efficiency/power consumption.
I'll second this. Since getting it, nothing interests me under a 1000 EUR/USD because the portable bricks are not mobile enough for me, and if I ever get a proper desktop setup, it's going to be something proper, like the DX9 or the K19, and I'll be done with it.
Please clarify, what is the reason for the inability to adjust the equalizer - select the frequency, filter type, gain level, etc. on the device itself?
The screen, it seems to me, completely allows you to make the above settings by simply going through the parameters. It is clear that the screen is not able to reflect the curves of the filters. But in principle this is not necessary, since the equalizer is not about the eyes, but about the ears. If it were possible to configure the equalizer on the device itself, it would be a killer feature; there is simply no analogue to such a dongle.
The M15 has no LED screen, PEQ, app or DAC filter settings. The M15 has no independent volume steps too, unlike the KA17.
The M15 is behind in power output, and can't drive too demanding stuff. The M15 has weaker soundstage and imaging, with less dynamics. It also hisses with some sensitive IEMs, with EMI present on occasions. M15 has better battery draw though, and doesn't get as hot.
In a nutshell, the M15 costs more, but actually doesn't perform as well as the cheaper KA17. With the PEQ on the KA17, it can change to any tonality you require, so the versatility is way better.

You can do this in the app and through the web portal, which are available on the two types of source devices most people are likely to use with the KA17: mobile and computers. While more choice could make for a richer experience, because of the above, yours is not a reasonable expectation IMO. What you're describing is a "could have" that comes only after "must have" and "should have".
