FIIO K11/K11 R2R, Truly Balanced, Truly Brilliant! Desktop DAC and Headphone Amplifier

Clukos: In your case, I think it's caused by an overdriven K7 input, considering that the K11 R2R has 2.7V on the Line-Out when the volume is 99 (regulated Pre-Out, or fixed DAC). Usually it's 2V. In your case, only lowering the volume on the K11 R2R will really help. The K7 still has high input sensitivity even at low gain.
Yeah that makes sense, thank you :)

Thank you both! I found the link here (in the comments): https://forum.fiio.com/note/showNoteContent.do?id=202311101753541075396&tid=77

Unfortunately it doesn't fix the issue with Line Out for me, I'm using K11 R2R Line Out -> K7 Line In (low gain) -> Balanced out into HD800s. Lowering the volume to < 90% on the K11 R2R seems to sort it out at least. Wonder if it's because Line Out is 2.7Vrms on the R2R.
I went to the link

https://fiio-firmware.fiio.net/K11 R2R/英文固件/K11 R2R M69 Firmware.zip

It leads to a .zip file with complicated instructions to download the firmware and how to flash it to the K11 R2R. I did not follow through to install M69 because it looks risky to me

My question is why does the UPDATE function on the round-robin menu on the K11 R2R only deliver M62, if M69 is the latest firmware?

The instructions are quite clear and I completed the update without any problems to my satisfaction. Just read carefully...

I've been using my K11 R2R on pre-out to my Magni piety. I can control the power/volume on the K11 which gives me more range on the magni's volume dial. I don't know if that’s correct or not be it seems to work

I am a believer in bit-perfect listening, where both players (UAPP on Android and Audirvana on PC) bypass the audio drivers in the operating system (Android and Windows 10) and then the unchanged data travels via USB cable to the DAC and in the K11 R2R in NOS DAC mode I bypass the volume control. Then only via RCA cable to the OTL amplifier Eufonika H5 KPCU Miflex and from there to the Sennheiser HD660S2. When I had the amplifier made, I had some personal requirements for modifications and one of them was the gain switch, which I now use with satisfaction. If your amplifier has high input sensitivity (high gain), then there is no choice but to reduce the volume in Pre-Out mode...

It really is not complicated to update, risk of bricking is low, if not non existent. Follow the instructions you'll be fine. The display on the K11 only shows you what firmware it is running on, not available options, it does not connect to any sort of server and look. Download the file, unpack the archive, place the K11 into update mode, open the app, choose the file, program, reset, done. My ears are not the best, however the changes were audible to them.

when asked the Fio rep said the following about changes...

Improved Sound Quality (Staging improvement, Dark background, Low noise floor), Fix Jitter, Popping sound, and Static sound especially when changing OS to NOS.

I have firmware m63 installed, i did download what was supposed to be m69 but i have no idea what to do next to install it.

Has anyone successfully installed m69 and if so can they give detailed instructions in how to do it.

Many thanks

Detailed step-by-step instructions are in the text file "K11 R2R firmware upgrade tutorial" attached to the zip file next to the update program (.exe) and the firmware itself (.hex). The text is in Chinese, but also in English. Just read it, or use Google Translate...

I did but the text does not explain what to do with the exe file and the r2r to get the update achieved but in the end i made it work by using my desktop and attaching a usb cable and then selecting update Y and running the exe file which worked. Now the firmware version show m69.

Well, you see how clever you are...! ;-)

Not really, just hopeful that it would work without bricking the dac. I still feel that a good clear comprehensive instruction set would be good, also i found the upgrade files almost by accident and am not sure of the improvements intended

Are firmware updates only necessary if you're a USB input user or should a Coax only user like myself also do the update?
