Hey guys what would be a decent cable upgrade or a lighter braided option for the FT1? The two 3.5mm connectors seems to be "mono" and most of the balanced cables I've seen in Amazon have stereo 3.5mm connections for the earcups. Would this work?

4.4mm to Dual 3.5mm

Cables made for the Beyer Amiron Home/T1/T5 work with the FT1. They don’t have to be mono plugs to the headphone.

The FIIO cables are known to be pretty solid and good.
Why do you want to spend extra money on it?

But if so, I would get one with an interchangeable plug.
FIIO LL-RC they are available in lengths 1.5m, 2.0m and at Ali also 3.0m
or FIIO LL-RD for everyone who has too much money
or FIIO LL-4.4A without interchangeable plug

almost all cables will work. Those "stereo" plugs will only use the tip and sleeve, just like a mono plug.

I actually think my main gripe with the FT1 is the cable. To me, it is very prone to microphonics and is a tad too stiff. A shame, now that they have provided two of them.
I will also be upgrading the cable on mine, for sure. Will go with a custom solution, though.

I think what is happening is that Advanced MP3 Players, the UK stockists for FiiO, ask you to pre-order. They will then order a certain quantity to fullfill these. Be it that they have run out of stock twice or three times now you'd think they would perhaps order a few more but ... . No biggie, Ali usually deliver within 7 days.

If you want to change the sound, then I agree. Bot there are a lot of other great reasons to spend money on a different cable, IMO.
Saying that changing cables is a waste of money, without any further explanation, is not very good advice, IMO.

Ok. If you don't like the colour of the supplied cable, change it.

To be honest for me is more an aesthetic thing than anything else. I think the Beech FT1 will look great with a silver braided cable. My only pet peeve is to find one in silver with an angled 4.4mm plug.

Edit: I guess I have to settle with this one:
cable 1 or cable 2
