Fiio E10K Crackling Issue

I recently got some new headphones and started using my fiio dac again however I noticed a lot of static when using it.
 
I narrowed the problem down to only being present when the windows volume is turned up. When windows volume is at 100%, I cant turn the dac volume past about 10% before hearing a lot of static.
 
I've tried using a different USB cable with no luck. To make sure it was an issue with the dac i tried plugging the headphones directly into the computer onboard sound which seemed to work fine.
 
I don't remember having this issue when I first got the device but now its making it unusable.
 
If anyone has any tips it would be appreciated.

There is an E10k thread but I haven't used it yet as I have the E10. The E10 and E10K are both pretty similar though. This Issue I sometimes have is a whole load of crackling when adjusting the volume dial. However, once it is left in any position, there is no background noise at all. Something I got told to do when I had this crackling problem was to unplug everything from the E10 and turn the dial all the way up and back down several times. I then plugged it back in and the crackling was no longer there then when turning the dial. This may well not sort the problem out for you but it will be worth a try. I assume you will have tried using a different USB port too.
