ID3 information for the macOS Music Tag Editor is not recognized. I'll confirm it today, and maybe I can change the firmware for you to confirm.
Thank you so much for getting back to me about this so quickly!

I'd like to spare others encountering the same problem the following efforts I went through yesterday:

1) Tried to format card in player, to retransfer files. Format didn't work! (see more below).
2) Formatted card as FAT on a PC (came out as FAT32), then retransferred all my music to it.
3) Moved albums out of my microSD card's nested folder structure, so I now had several albums right in the card's root folder (\Root\Album name\Track number.Track name.flac, etc.).
4) Moved the tracks of a single album themselves to the card's root folder (so no folder structure at all, just \Root\Track number.Track name.flac, etc.).

None of the above got the Echo Mini to recognize my music tags.

This is now no surprise, seeing as Fiio has weighed in and clarified that macOS Music Tag Editor 2 ID3 tagging of flacs is not recognized by the player.

It would be absolutely amazing if the firmware could be updated soon to include support Music Tag Editor 2 ID3 tags (they are supported on pretty much any other device I've tried with the same microSD card, including Android phones, a Sony NW-A35 walkman, and another Chinese hi-res player, and I can't imagine having to redo all my tags using some alternate tool/method).

And to elaborate on the problem I encountered formatting my microSD card via the Echo Mini - I started the format on the Echo Mini software menu and received no warning or error message whatsoever, yet when checking content on the microSD card via the Echo Mini's folder navigation, I was shocked to discover all the folders and files still there. I tried again, this time immediately shutting the Echo Mini down and checking the card on a PC. All the folders and files were indeed still there. I've checked the card with diagnostics tests and it appears to be just fine (it does work and get formatted flawlessly on other devices), yet the Echo MIni wouldn't format it. Any idea what the problem might be?

Hello.

I formatted a 265GB card inside the Echo Mini.

Has anyone experienced all the albums files leaking into other album files in the database?

If you see the first picture the albums are '(the best of) New Order' and '154'. When I go into album '154' I can see '(the best of) New Order' tracks and the first few '154' tracks.
The remaining '154' tracks are in the next album in the order! This repeats on all albums?

Resetting the device and running a library media update changes nothing. I take it somehow the card has been corrupted?

The tag for FLAC is “VorbisComment”.
Do not write “ID3v2” tags to FLAC.

FLAC files that have both “ID3v2” and “VorbisComment"
Most players show “VorbisComment”, but Echo Mini does not recognize the song information.

It's hard to remove the “ID3v2” tag from FLAC files
MusicBrainz Picard has that function, thank God...

Thanks for chiming in about this. I'll likely try with an alternate card and a subset of my music, just to see if I can get the Echo Mini to recognize my music tags at all.

Having said that, I don't see myself retagging my fairly sizeable music library en masse, just to accommodate the Echo Mini, given how every other device I use recognizes the ID3 tags in my Flac files no problem. Just way too much work.

I was provided seemingly experimental firmware to try out, and it WAS able to recognize the music tags embedded in ONE of more than 100 albums I have on my micro SD card, with all other albums, artists and genres remaining "Unknown". Am really hoping Fiio manages to make this work 100%, cause I'm absolutely loving the form factor, nostalgia and audio quality.

Normally it is not possible to write ID3 to FLAC files, but some applications seem to write it when incorrectly configured.
We had to remove ID3 tags from dozens of albums...
Sorry if this is an incorrect point as I am not familiar with macOS common sense.

Also, I want to update the firmware. Implement USB DAC function (as Dongle). Would you like to have this feature?
I think that would be better to firstly solve the other issues people are mentioning in this thread, and, after that, work in that feature :beerchug:

Before we add a whole new feature to the player that was not part of the original advertised feature set, may I please request that we fix issues on the Echo Mini that I've never seen occur in any other DAP? The issue of sorting files in order in folder view would be my first request. It was mostly fixed in v1.6, and by "mostly" I mean 75% of the time. I still can't reliably listen to albums in order. Thanks.

Make sure the metadata is correctly formatted for the Echo Mini...

Songs are now displayed in the order specified in the metadata, but it doesn't make distinction of albums that are composed of more than one disc...

So let's say you have one album with 6 tracks divided into 2 discs (#1 being 1-3 and #2 being 4-6). Like this:

* Disc #1
1. TrackName 1 (labeled as track 1 of disc 1)
2. TrackName 2 (labeled as track 2 of disc 1)
3. TrackName 3 (labeled as track 3 of disc 1)

* Disc #2
4. TrackName 4 (labeled as track 1 of disc 2)
5. TrackName 5 (labeled as track 2 of disc 2)
6. TrackName 6 (labeled as track 3 of disc 2)

In that case, when labeled like that, the Echo Mini will display them like this:

1. TrackName 1 (labeled as track 1 of disc 1)
4. TrackName 4 (labeled as track 1 of disc 2)
2. TrackName 2 (labeled as track 2 of disc 1)
5. TrackName 5 (labeled as track 2 of disc 2)
3. TrackName 3 (labeled as track 3 of disc 1)
6. TrackName 6 (labeled as track 3 of disc 2)

It'll be in order of track number only, not talking into consideration the disc number.

It's very easy to correct that with a metadata editor.

To be displayed in the correct order, for example, track 4 has to be specifically labeled AS TRACK 4 to be put 4th and NOT TRACK 1 OF DISC 2... You should instead label all tracks as part of the same Disc, like this:

1. TrackName 1 (labeled as track 1)
2. TrackName 2 (labeled as track 2)
3. TrackName 3 (labeled as track 3)
4. TrackName 4 (labeled as track 4)
5. TrackName 5 (labeled as track 5)
6. TrackName 6 (labeled as track 6)

In the folder view, files will be displayed in the exact same order they were placed into the folder of the SD Card. So If you want track 1 to be first then make sure you paste these files in order...
