Ferrum WANDLA - Impressions Thread

I've just posted my review of the WANDLA here!

Also measurements/written review available here: https://headphones.com/blogs/review...all-package-ferrum-wandla-review-measurements

Sorry for a bit of an offtopic question here, but you mentioned that the Wandla's filters are very good but not quite as good as some of the others that HQPlayer offers.

It was thanks to you that I discovered HQPlayer which has totally changed my music experience. Even though it can be very much preference-dependent, I am very curious if you're still predominantly using the Sinc-Mx filter (as perhaps the most technically correct one, although given the complexity of the subject I could be wrong here) or if you find any of the Gauss filters (gauss-xla or Sinc-MGa) more convincing as they seem to make the transients gentler/more natural. Bearing in mind how you've always enjoyed R2R DACs I have a hunch that the Gauss filters could be right up your alley.

I was testing Wandla as DAC and pre today with custom gsx mini as power amp. I wouldn’t agree digital and analog volume control sounds the same. Digital sounded thinner and started distorting bass at higher volume. Also immediately change the linear phase filter to HQ oversampling, then it starts to sound great. The stage and placement improves vastly. On ESS linear phase it’s just unimpressive. Great dac, one nit pick, which prevents me from getting one. It’s not as weighty in the mids as I would like. Vocals are sweet sounding, but they lack a little bit of weight. Everything around that was superb. Analog volume control and HQ Apod. are the way to go👍

Can you please comment sound differences between Hugo 2 and Wandla. I have Hugo 2 as desktop DAC and i am considering if Wandla is an upgrade to Hugo 2. Thanks

It is higher performer. With HQ oversampling stage and positioning is a lot clearer and more spacious. Sounds are just more clear and separated, which appears to be more detailed. With my system I have small nitpicks which makes me think I’ll like holo spring 3 with pre better, but also more expensive. It is a great dac in decent price point, only depends what gear you have whether it matches well. As i said, in my case mids were sweet sounding, but not as weighty to what I prefer. By small amount ofc, that’s just the reason why I’ll probably won’t get it for myself before I try holo spring 3

Havn’t got a chance to audition the Wandla. From where I reside the Wandla is more expensive than Spring 3 KTE and about 1k cheaper than the May L2. If it really can rivals the May in terms of technicalities then its definitely a very strong contender!

Interesting. 6 moons review compares the tone to DSD type saturation but no one else seems to say this...
I mean that’s exclusive to my setup and what I prefer it to sound. Otherwise it was outstanding and I would happily put it on my desk. I’d say it was sweet sounding, holographic and spacious, but a touch thinner than I would like

I’d presume Spring 3 would suit me more in that regard. Need to try that one

My Ferrum stack setup , they are using 2 units of Hypsos to supplies the different voltage to each device. The different voltage in each headphone , the upgrade sound I could get from each headphone.
