What tracks and passages do you guys like to listen to in order to judge difference between equipment?

however, i can't find any of that music! it is a superb writeup though.

Nice indeed, but don't we all think the most familiar pieces are the ones from which it is best to do any comparation?

I always pop a new piece of rig with Mulholland Drive's soundtrack. Badalamenti's best work.

Thanks for that link, it's a great guide. Luckily I have a few of those tracks and a good thorough listen really shows them off.

the offspring-come out swinging (especially 2nd verse)
linkin park-shadow of the day (bass is REALLY punchy)
red hot chili peppers-slow cheetah (lots of different instrumentals)

yes, but it seems that all chesky recording, are in different league from other recording . i have a Rebbecca pidgeon recording from them and it sound remarkable comper with the other recording of her . and that recording is exceptional recording of jazz vokal

In general, when comparing stuff, I always listen to music that I know well. Music that I have listen to for many years - music that I know how it should sound. This is how I selected the UE 10 Pro's over the Shure SE530 - the many tracks that I tried both of them with sounded better and more natural with the UE's.
