Apple Music (Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless) has been awesome straight out of my headphone jack on my 14" MacBook Pro, to the point where I don't really see the point of spending a few hundred dollars on a DAC and AMP. They drive my HD6XX with authority and sounds fantastic.

A typical laptop or desktop PC has both a dac chip and an amp section so you can play the music from a streaming audio supplier. Thats what the headphone output (typically a 3.5 mm jack) is connected to. Some are fine with it. I for one are not.
