Jenny Lewis, when she's part of Rilo Kiley anyway. Not so sure about the solo stuff.

Right now Joanna Newsom is in heavy rotation with me. There is just something about her voice. Also, Sia is 2nd followed by Regina Spektor.
The one I want to check out next is Annette Strean from Venus Hum.

My vote goes to Joan Armatrading, the British singer/songwriter (mainly 1970/80s).
Enjoy!

My girlfriend... but she's a classically trained opera singer without anything recorded. Still, I get goosebumps when I think about her singing Ave Maria and At Last at a wedding we attended over the summer.
To pick a favourite female singer from the music I own [mainly female vocals] would be tough, but it would probably be Tori Amos.
Some others that were listed in this thread that I second/third/fourth:
Anoushka Shankar
Etta James
Norah Jones
Billie Holiday
Ella Fitzgerald
Fiona Apple
Jenny Lewis
PJ Harvey
EDIT: Good call on Karen O wovenhand
A couple more off the top of my head:
Imogen Heap
Lou Rhodes
Leslie Feist
Valerie Trebeljahr
Christina Aguleira [if only her music didn't suck]
I'm sure there are a bunch more, but my memory is terrible and my music is not with me at the moment.

Joanna Newsom and Imogen Heap are probably the only female singers i listen to regularly. I'd say Joanna Newsom was my favourite.
