When I was in San Francisco back in April, my brother told me I should check out Amoeba Records. I'm glad I did, because I got to see Blonde Redhead performing a free show in-store, but also because I picked up a bunch of awesome albums. Of all the albums I picked up, I've probably listened to Michelangeli's 1948 recording of Bach's Chaconne from Partita No. 2 arranged by Busoni. The cadenza at the end is so stormy and full of fury! It's quickly become one of my favorites, even if it isn't technically noted as a cadenza.

Other favorites of mine are from:

Rachmaninov's ossia cadenza for his 3rd piano concerto
Mendelssohn's 1st violin concerto, first movement
Beethoven's 3rd piano concerto, first movement
Beethoven's Appassionata sonata, first movement (though the one in the third movement is also very compelling)

I'm using cadenza in a loose sense here, so no nitpickers please.

I'm wondering what your favorites are so I can go find some new music. ^__^
