I am starting this thread for the discussion of an IEM new to the market outside of Asia - FA Audio Dark Sky. It is the company’s latest flagship 1DD IEM, and it generated MUCH hype in Asian market earlier this year. According to Twister6, the Dark Sky features the “perfect balance between a powerful articulate bass and a vivid presentation of clear and detailed upper frequencies”, and an excellent price-to-performance ratio.

It currently retails for $1150 at Musicteck. Interested user may also check out Twister6’s complete review on this IEM.

Looks interesting. I'd love to see the frequency response. Some single DD IEMs are too forward for me.

Huh, I could either buy this or an upgrade cable for my IE 900......madness, hahahahaha.

I just love that single DD sets have come roaring back lately as viable options in the hi-fi segment of the market.
Couldn’t agree more. Both in terms of the cohesive and natural sound they can offer, but more importantly the fact that single DDs seem to be a lot more cost effective to research / build - as evidenced by the recent bucking of the crazy flagship pricing trend by single DD entrants.

Fascinated by this as I really do have a thing for single DDs. I spotted on Musicteck just yesterday while doing my weekly inspection of the site! Then I see Twisters review this morning - one possible red flag for me in his review:

"I found the tuning to work well with any genre of music I threw at it, though have to say, if you prefer a more organic warmer tonality and smoother treble, or more emotional musical mids, the tuning of Dark Sky might be too “clean” for you."

I'm not going to grab it just yet but will certainly keep an eye on upcoming impressions. It looks very attractive too, I lean towards more simple/clean designs. Also, the packaging and accessories look fantastic.

This and ZEN Pro firmly on the radar.

Exactly same dilemma :disappointed_relieved: Reason (a totally forbidden word to pronounce on headFI) should lead me first to another iem as it is far more effective if the goal is getting a difference sound signature... but Jesus Christ is that possible lo leave my so beloved I 900 without a fancy cable????? not sure I can face a compulsive buy..

I hadn't a single DD and Dark Sky looks so tempting...
@twister6 Does Dark sky have similarities with Mest mk2 on mids?

I didn't think about it when I was writing the review, but now just compared Dark Sky vs MK2 using LPGT, and indeed, a lot of similarities in mids (tonality, texture, presentation). But when comparing, Dark Sky bass is just on another level  One iem I'm yet to hear is IE900, quite a few people asked me to for that comparison, while I'm not familiar with it at all.

And.... did you get the DARK SKY for personal purpose?! .))

No harshness, just a vivid clarity, but all will depend on eartips selection... And, everything I get is not for personal purpose, but for community review purpose  How many iems or daps or cables does a person need? Whatever I get for review is on long term loan, I don't own it, it is a property of manufacturer and stays that way.

I asked you because i had this impression reading your review.
