FATfreq Impressions Thread - Bass Cannons and More

I'm not really the target audience for Fatfreq with their namesake and lush tuning. That being said I found that the reference pro and tsuru to be very suitable to my tastes.

Interestingly the reference pro SE I found way too smooth for my tastes. That lush vocal tuning looses alot of the vocal detail and texture.

Grand Mestresto I found to have just the worst sandpaper air/upper treble. While they wouldn't say what was used for the treble I would guess it's unfiltered est drivers like the first gen est chifi that gives that characteristic sound or lack of sustained sound.

Overall it was a fun trip there and personally I'm quite temped to get the tsuru due to it matching the genres I listen to alot being power metal, J core and accoustic pop vocals.
Did you get a good deep fit with the GM? I think that improves the treble.

I couldn't wait for my Scarlet so I pulled the trigger on a used Maestro SE. Should be here today.

Late to the party, but I get a Maestro Mini soon. And if I like it alot, who knows maybe a Scarlet Mini will be tempting 😎

Looks absolutely epic. More sub bass, more mid bass, more extension.

Someone on HFGF posted FatFreq's timeline. Preorders placed from July through early September will be shipped in October. Preorders placed after mid-September will ship around end of October and November.

This looks so delish to me i couldn‘t resist. ordered. Looking forward to comparing to the MSE myself. I don’t expect the Scarlett to match the MSE’s technicals, but I do expect the bass to blow my brains out.

A few things:

1. Your source isn't powerful enough. MSE will sound shrill and boomy without enough power. Upgrade to an external amp or a more powerful DAP. It's seriously power hungry, and dongles just won't cut it.
Actually, the best setup I found while I had the Maestro SE on loan was iPhone with iFi gold bar dongle. Better than WM1AM2 (under powered) and desktop McIntosh MHA-150. The iFi is a power freak with +/-450mW so it may be just about the only dongle that will cut it.
