James,

Thank you for your hard work on X3. Is it possible to add parametric EQ to X3 through firmware update?

Parametric EQ can nullify specific peaks/valleys of headphones (rather than changing entire treble like what the current treble EQ does). Some headphones, such as your Beyer DT880s (which have a bell-shaped treble peak centered at around 8500 Hz), would benefit from parametric EQ as much as the existing treble/bass EQ.

Seconded. Exactly for the reason stated by zzffnn.

it is quite easy to put a parametric EQ in X3, but it is hard to provide it with reasonable sound quality because software EQ will install some distortion.

Thanks James. So you absolutely will not implement parametric EQ on X3, or do you want to see the result of a poll and decide? If you like, I will happily open a new poll/thread in Headfi and ask people to vote whether or not they want parametric EQ on X3.

I understand that parametric EQ may introduce some phase shift/distortion. The question is how much of such distortion is humanly audible and can we implement parametric EQ below HUMAN EAR's (not dScope's) detection threshold. I would not be surprised if dScope can detect such phase shift/distortion, but if human ears cannot hear it then I don't care for it.

Plus, some people may be more sensitive to treble peak than phase shift/distortion; for those, the benefit of having parametric EQ on would outweigh the issue of phase shift/distortion. For those who do not want parametric EQ, they can just turn it off without affecting anything (when parametric EQ is turned off, it should NOT cause distortion, correct?).

The current treble reducer on X3 cannot nullify a 5 db symmetrical peak between 7-9KHz without affecting other frequencies, while parametric EQ can do that.  Many headphones have such treble peaks -- your (my) Beyer DT880 is one such example.

A truly  parametric EQ, done right, would be an excellent upgrade. If the users are applying it properly there should be minimal distortion introduced....the parametric EQ is one of the best things in Rockbox!

Hey, we could even exchange presets for particular set of cans or plugs. That's what community is for

May I request a 10 bands parametric EQ which has been used in Meizu M6 SL? I think it is one of the best  EQ I have seen in a dap so far.

If the parametric EQ does not interfere when it's off I would certainly see it as a bonus to have this option.

that is how i have done my files for years. on this one, i don't care about space. for me it looks much neater. and this works for me james on various daps! so while you may want to include the folder.jpg  as a new fw feature, please do not remove what we currently have. ok?

Maybe something like check if got individual track album art, if yes use them. If no, use album.jpg (which is the default behaviour for foobar2000)

Here's the foobar's default search pattern for album art, actually:

front.jpg
cover.jpg
%filename%.jpg
%album%.jpg
folder.jpg

Meaning folder.jpg would work in foobar but album.jpg wouldn't, unless your album is called "album".
But yeah, shouldn't be that hard to look for embedded art first and use the pattern above second.

we will keep improving the cover support in the future, so X3 can supports not matter it is embedded or extra cover, or it is folder cover. but plz give us time to develop the firmware.

thanks, for people who wants a folder cover, it is quite easy to use foorbar to add the cover to the whole album. just select all the sound tracks of the same album and click the right key of the mouse, choose the cover and add to all the sound tracks .

anyone can do it not more than 1 min.

To be honest, our engineers are working very hard to meet all the reuirement from our user, and I can't find any other DAPs can support so many features ( excepted some DAPs installed the rockbox or based on Android )

Rockbox and parametric EQ are the reasons why I am stilling using Sansa Clip+. If James can implement parametric EQ on X3, I will buy a X3 in no time.

To me, X3 is already a very nice DAP with its latest firmware. Features that appeal to me most include its output power (10-30 times more power than Sansa Clip+ or iPod Touch) and hardware bass/treble EQ. Additionally, X3's high line out level is very helpful in driving my LCD-2 and DT880 (w/ external amp). X3 would be almost perfect for my use, if only I could have parametric EQ to kill the 8kHz peak of DT880.........

>= 3 bands of parametric EQ would be nice, but I can live with even one single band.
