Hi I just bought a pair of DT770 Beyerdynamic headphones. I googled for images of it and they seem different than those that I just bought. I just wondered if they might be fake. 1) the headband on the real ones have padding and mine don't. 2) there is the beyerdynamic logo on the sides of the google Beyer dt770 images I found, but not on my pair 3) the google images don't have left and right written on the headband adjuster thing, mine do. Are there different models of dt770? I am new to headphones, and am very scared that they are fake. Can someone confirm for me if they are real or not?

There are indeed different versions of the DT770's with different labelling, etc. It would help greatly to post a pic of yours so we can tell whether they're fake or not... haven't heard of fake Beyers before though...

Here are some photos on flikr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98991705@N00/?saved=1 I put two photos of the images found on Google Image of the DT770, and two photos of my recently bought Beyers.

Actually, they look like really old DT770's. They have the same headband as the DT990 and DT880 from the 80's.

You're right, the headband on those look exactly like mine! I guess they are probably real after all, just really old. Thanks for the confirmation, I feel so relieved.

Also the cord ends with a 1"4 jack, not a 3.5mm! At first I thought the 1"4 adapter was screwed on and covering the 3.5mm jack, but then I realized that I can't screw it off, it does not end in a 3.5 mm stereo jack, but a 1"4! I bought this for use on my device with a 3.5mm opening, and since it doesn't have a 3.5mm stereo jack I can't use it! I checked the specs online before so I did not look too closely before buying it, since I thought basically they are all the same. However it appears that perhaps this older version ends in in a 1"4 jack, not like the modern ones which end in 3.5mm and have a 1"4 adapter..

Those are DT880's in my picture. And yeah, they probably came out before the influx of 3.5mm devices. Just head over to Radioshack and buy an adapter, or if you know how to use a soldering iron, a new plug.

Where did you find those? I've been looking for one of the older ones.

Thanks, I will buy an adapter. I bought them off Kijiji. They were thirdhand from someone who originally bought them in Germany, used about two years in total, but they were only $85.

Wait, what country do you live in? I'm assuming you live in the US but that's probably not the best assumption. But in case you do, go for Monoprice adapters if you can wait a bit.

Oh, I'm not too sure what's in Canada, so I can't really help you there...sorry! But most electronic stores should have them.

those types of adapters put a lot of strain on the headphone jack you are plugging them into, and could cause damage over the long term.
i'd go with the Grado adapter, or something similar.
this is the one i bought: http://www.amazon.com/Grado-Mini-Adaptor-Cable-Inch/dp/B001DK1ZVO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1347781633&sr=8-3&keywords=1%2F4+to+3.5mm+adapter+grado
