MacBook Air M1 2020

Hello,

I've been experiencing listening fatique (as a result of little air circulation and general sensitivity to wearing (any) pair of headphones) despite having really lightweight, open phones (Yamaha HPH-200); I think I would enjoy alternating phones and speakers. I've gotten used to the HPHs' sound (a bit sharp but very transparent) and like them a lot. I've been considering getting high/highes end Sennheisers (and an amp).

I want to use the MacBook Air as a source. I'd like to put speakers on my desk (and probably only there); I would be OK with loads of cables if there is good reason to do so, otherwise a cable-free solution or a solution that has a limited amout of cables would be preferrable.

I know this is somewhat off-topic for a headphones forum, but since I've gotten great recommendations here, I'd still like to ask:
What setup would you recommend for "entry level" for a desk setup? Which brands do you generally recommend?

I have heard that in general, good speakers are (even) more expensive than headphones. Still I would like to start at entry level; the total cost of the equipment should be within the range of USD 200 to USD 800 (unless there happens to be that "highly recommended thing" that happens to be USD 1500 and is very good value for that money, of course).

Is there a forum that is typically recommended for speakers discussion (in case this was too off-topic)?

Thank you!!!

Hi!
As a starting point, I would look at something such as a DAC with variable output and a pair of active speakers. Something like iFi's Zen DAC and JBL 305's. Then you can scale it with budget: nicer DAC, nicer speakers, or go from 2.0 to 2.1 setup (adding a subwoofer).

So, I've spent quite some time reading on speakers, and in the end I decided I'm not going to buy speakers at all for the time being, and instead first upgrade my HPH-200 to top-of-the-line Sennheisers (which I don't know yet), and an amp.

If anyone stumbles across this thread, I found this thread helpful as a starting point (despite the title): https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...p-for-deeply-imperfect-listening-space.43749/

I want to mention that I think I will find great enjoyment in owning several headphones. It's comparing them that makes you look for the details, and subsequently appreciate them and notice them.

So, how did the story end? Have you decided to go with loudspeakers, or you went with headphones?
