Are you looking to drive active or passive speakers? Or will you be using headphones mostly? Depending on your budget and needs there is a lot out there these days.
I wanted to ask the same thing. Will use mostly with passive speakers that already have an excellent amplifier as well. Looking for clarity and soundstage. Sorry to jump into your thread, thought we could share and save space 
Was quite disspointed with the onboard on my MSI SLI PLUS z370. My old motherboard from 2008 sounded really good with it's Realtek ALC889A. And my new ALC1220 sounds worse even if the specs are better on paper. Frakking motherboard sound lottery.
