An iMod is a heavily modified iPod (specific models only) from an esoteric high-end audio company called Red Wine Audio. The end result is sans-headphoneamp; the output jack puts out a line-level signal, necessitating the use of external amplification. In other words, you can't plug a headphone directly into the unit; a separate amp is required.

Why? Because you end up with something that competes on sound quality with high-end CD players, for much less money. And you can carry it around. Can I afford one? Hell no. Would I like one? Hell yes.

So one more question then.... Cables are just to through a stero, so an imod is useless for on the go listening?

Not quite. The iMod can be used both in a portable and a home system.
Using a matching headphone amplifier...
