I agree. I think that the excess glue might be the only thing that is holding the drivers in place. I imagine the drivers are press fitted in, and then a glue ring (aka glue slop) is applied along the perimeter to keep it in. Removing the glue slop would make the drivers much more likely to fall out. I'm like the most anal person when it comes to cosmetics, but the glue slop on my MS-Pro doesn't bother me on bit. I can't see it with the pads on.

"the excess glue might be the only thing that is holding the drivers in place"

That's a contradiction in terms there

There is a layer of glue between the drivers and the wood housing. It is visible. And if it were only the outside glue keeping the drivers in place, you'd be able to push the drivers right into the housings.

The glue turns white when moistened so I assume it is a type of white wood glue that dries transparent.

IIRC, he basically argued that cosmetics don't matter to him at all and that everyone was being too nitpicky about their concerns over my cosmetically defective RS-1 with its very noticable splintered edges and poor finish. And now he his picking away at glue that you can't even normally see

, unless he was doing it strictly to alter the "damping effect".

No, it wasn't for cosmetic purposes, originally. I was curious about getting to a position where I might want to remove the drivers and try the SR200 drivers in the RS-1 housings. I decided against this. But since more than a few people seemed to be concerned about the sloppiness factor with regards to the excess glue, I thought I would let you guys know there was a possible solution.

And this is what I said in that thread, initially..

If they sounded awesome, with perfect imaging, I'd keep 'em. I'd be more concerned with a slight channel imbalance than I would be with something I don't see or care about when I'm lost in the music.

If I still didn't like the way they looked, I'd return them to the dealer for another pair. How simple.

I was not expressing a lack of concern for cosmetics. I was expressing concern that people just sat there and bitched about it instead of contacting Grado.
