Heya, I'm new here, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
I've just got a question about recording, I am using a pair of EX70's on my NetMD and they sound like **** but on my PC I load the Ety mod on them and they sound alot more decent, I just want to know how I can keep the equalizer effect on the MP3 when OpenMG puts it on MD. I know you can can convert to wave on Winamp but then you'd have to manually convert again back to MP3, is there an easier way?

Also should I keep using the Ety mod or change to silver mod?
Thanks in advance.

Hi karn1911, Welcome to Head-Fi

I don't really know the answer to this one... but what happens if you use one of the EQ settings on the OpenMG software? - Is that just for playing on the PC, or is it mirrored onto the MD?

Try the tape mod on the EX70s though, does tame them down quite nicely... else, wait until the EX71s come out next weekend... and the reviews start coming in

Can't you transfer wavs to the MD over NetMD?

I bet you can load the wavs onto the playlist and transfer them to your MD just fine (it works on my brother's OpenMG interface with his MS Walkman)

Hmm, if you can't, (don't see the reason why it would prefer mp3 over wav as its native format is neither mp3 nor anything else you would have on your computer, so it would have to convert anyway), you can always fall back on line out recording, preferably using a soundcard with optical output... or, just modify the setting on the Winamp Disk Writer plugin to record to mp3 (although I bet the quality of the encoder is far from optimal :/)

Nice to see another user of my EQ settings by the way

Thanks for the replies.
Joe Bloggs, I'll give that try next time. Your EQ settings have indeed saved me alot of fustration.

I've changed to silver tape mod and I've noticed it has caused the volume to suffer quite a bit, is this normal or have I got too much foam in the tube?

Joe...

Have a look here for some vague info on the EX71s...

Also mention of a budget EX51

I'm intending on getting EX71s. Hopefully they're still going to be US$45.

It seems to me that real time recording would be your best bet.

you really think so MAM?

I can hear a very subtle hiss on NetMD LP2 mode at full volume, but... for portable use, its certainly not 'that' bad...

I have yet to try an LP2 through either the Simple Burner, or through the optical input from my EJ1000...

We'll see

[edit]

It since transpires that the CD in question has the hiss anyway... so, so far as i'm concerned, no problems with OpenMG / LP2

NetMD only gives LP2 max? That's just so dumb

No Joe, it does do LP4 (on the N707 at least)...

But you have do drop the sampling rate down to 66kbps... which'd probably sound pretty junky...

I'll try it later, to find out

Oh, right... gotcha...

You can do SP, but it is an expanded LP2, so hardly worth the effort

lol...

Everything using OpenMG is compressed... made suitable for LP2, but there is an option, for backwards compatability, to record it in SP mode...

To do this you go into MD Settings -> Record Mode -> Stereo Recording (rather than LP Stereo Recording)

Hope thats made things clearer

I've waiting so many years for a 888 replacement and all Sony came up with was some EX71's?!? Are they nuts?!? My EX70 sounds like crap!

I'm not gonna fall for the MDR-EXCRAP (or should I call it the MDR-EXcrement?) trap again!!

And by the way, Sony will very unlikely be replacing the E888 with a newer successor, as Sony is no longer interested in the high-end consumer market - as far as earbuds and headphones are concerned. So once the E848 and E888 are discontinued, the top-of-the-line Sony open earbud would be the el-cheapo E829V (which I know is rather thick and woolly-sounding).
