I decided to crash in my corporate apartment on the river tonight and was startled by loud explosions outside. It is on the 30th Floor and overlooks New York Harbor. Well tonight they set of the fireworks from directly below my building so I snapped a few shots. Enjoy.

They were about 100 yards from the window. The soundwave were rattling the windows and most everything that wasn't nailed down in the apartment.

Holy heck, man, that's AWESOME! I mean, it must have been terribly loud and the rattling of things... but I tell you, I frigging love standing on my roof in Park Slope and watching fireworks like nothing else. I would love to see them from that close...

But we artists are stupid about things like that... I wonder how many of us have been killed by desire to be near something shiny?

A few years ago, I was on top of a building on the lower east side of Manhattan for the 4th of July. Huge party up there and the fireworks looked just like that, with everything exploding just above eye level right in front of us. Truly an awe inspiring experience.
