Thanks for the link. I love the CD from these performances -- listened to it many, many times over the years.

It's cool to finally SEE what I've been LISTENING to for so long.

Check out this one too (my fave) - Cheek to Cheek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0rQX...elated&search=

I had always imagined her in an elegant evening gown leaning against a piano singing into a circa 1940s microphone and belting out the high notes with glove-adorned arm in air. But the reality was something more sublime and amazing: a decidely understated artist singing and accompanying herself on guitar. How does that miraculous sound emerge from her? It seems almost effortless.

Here are a few more of my favorites...

Her oft-imitated but never matched arrangement of "Over the Rainbow":

That's the first time I ever saw that. I had no idea she used my exact guitar. I'm going to play a few nursery rhymes for my kid tomorrow in her honor.

This needs a little revival. Eva Cassidy has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. I was introduced to her music years ago, by my mother of all people!

She has power, range, passion and incredible musical intuition. Such a shame that her life was cut so short.

Autumn Leaves an excellent example of her spectacular talent.

I had never seen this video, so I appreciated it.

Squeeze, I echo your sentiments.

In fact, Eva Cassidy's voice has spoiled me a little bit. Diana Krall seems almost lifeless by comparison and pop divas like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, soulless.

Will there ever be another voice like Eva's?

And will she ever be properly appreciated here in America, her home. She's revered in the UK, Australia, and other corners of the world, but in the US she's still not a household name.

Here is Eva's "Fields of Gold," which is said to have brought Sting to tears. Unfortunately, there is no publicly available video of her performing this song, but this recording, like the ones above, is from her live performance at Blues Alley.

"Live at Blues Alley" is an absolutely amazing performance by an amazing artist, and my favorite Eva Cassidy disc. Her vocal talent was simply spectacular and it shines so brightly on this set. While they're all great, the standout track for me here is "What a Wonderful World". My wife and I love it so much we used it as our wedding song. There is such rich nuance and heartfelt emotion in her singing that it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I wonder what Louis Armstrong would have thought of her rendition.

Here is the video of that performance:

Ironically, she was getting over a cold at the time of the Blues Alley performance and it's said that she tears were streaming down her face at the thought that the album would be released to the public. Her producer had to promise her that they'd do a follow-up studio album ("Eva by Heart") to convince her to let them release "Live at Blues Alley." Just goes to show even Eva off of her game puts the rest of the musical world to shame.

By the way, "What a Wonderful World" was the very last song she sang for a public audience. She sang it at a tribute concert for her her friends had organized to help pay for her cancer treatments. She died two months later.
