Hi,

I want to purchase the 40GB Ipod, but as I live in EU, I can only get the euro version with the 100db limitation. My question is: is the limitation only like "software" based, or is the actual amplifier weak? I mean; I will probably need to have it on 85-95% all the time, but if its real 95%, and the amplifier is running to the max, it will probably be distorted at that soundlevel. But if its actualy in reality only like 70% (and only the limitation will not allow you more) , it will probably be allright.

Not sure its relationship to the EU version (so keep that in mind), but the percent max you've mentioned (if I understand it) shouldn't cause any problems with distortion. In fact with the US model, if using the headphone out with an amp, it is usually best to turn the volume to 100% as this approximates a line out signal for the best output to an amp (and final volume adjusted there). I haven't heard any distortion.
