My Ety's. suddenly stopped producing decent volume. I left them alone for a day and they are fine again at full volume. I use the tri-flange tips.

The only thing I can figure happened is I got too much spit in them (used to make tips insert and seal well) and they were wet and had to dry out.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

I'm wondering if I should go ahead and replace the filters now also.

Nope, never had that problem with my ER4s, which I use every day and I do (very) lightly wet the tip.

Too much spit on them? .... gosh... you must've been givin urself wet willies all this time huh
You might wanna try washing the filters as suggested in one of the recent threads in this forum or replace it entirely if you have spare ones lying around. Saliva does contain quite a lot of proteins (digestive enzymes, lysozymes to break down bacteria etc) and the human mouth is 1 dirty little place, full of germs...... heck even a dog's mouth is cleaner than ours and some dogs even eat what they crap out!
