I've been asking myself the same question. Haven't tried either, but a few people have told me that the Elegias were a disappointing member of the Focal family. Not sure if that means they are bad or just not up to par/different from its cousins.

The Elegias are not that bad, but I found them to be fairly anemic in the bass when I gave them a test run. The Clears sound much better. Closed headphones generally don't have as good a soundstage as open headphones. But they usually have more bass slam. Not so with the Elears. They had surprisingly leaner bass than I had anticipated. Less bass than the Clear, about the same as the Sennheiser HD800.
They are generally nice headphones with a crisp midrange and decent treble definition. But I would have been left wanting for more bass.
