Can a mod please put a 56k warning in the topic? Thanks.

I will update this post lateron tonight or tomorow night. Posted here isn't half of what's available.

For now this is all I can post here. There is much, much more to be found there. Better descriptions, links, pictures, etc, all coming up.
Please note that the prices I mentioned come straight from the forum and don't include shipping or taxes. The information and images come straight from Erji.net, a chinese headphone forum. I get the information from a very badly translated version from Babelfish, so there I could've made mistakes.

Foreword
I came across a WXPH-12J headphone amplifier on a local auction site for a very low price. Before I researched it I bought it, going from looks and price alone. After that, I googled it and came across a chinese headphone forum, Erji.net. Babelfish doesn't do much of a good job, but two things are clear to me: there are ALOT of very nice toys built there by people selling for VERY little.

I don't think I'll be able to cover all of them, but I'll give it a shot.

First up, the thing I scored.

Looks like a very nicely built headphone amplifier. Uses a Alps pot so components wise it can't be bad. Puts out roughly 100mA. According to a member there is slight noise when running on half volume using a K501, but it's too loud to listen to. I'll be able to comment on it better once I receive it coming weekend. It's price on the board there, new, is 660 Yuan, or $83 USD. Seems like a stunning price for the components used and the quality of the casing. I purchased it from a chinese guy living in The Netherlands. He's also willing to help find someone on the Erji board who speaks english. I'm not sure if there is some of you are interested in purchasing some of the below items, if you are either post here or PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Someone is actually using it in a K1000 rig! Makes me wonder about how good it actually is, I hope it is THAT good.

WXPH-20:
The bigger brother of the one above. Designed specifically for the AKG K1000.
Looks like a balanced system. Price: 1980 Yuan or $250 USD.

Yulong Audio Mini Dac:
Looks like a DAC with built in headphone amplifier aswell as loop-out. Looks very well built! Uses a PCM1798. Total signal to noise ratio is more than 110dB.
Price: 1600 Yuan, or $200 USD!!

TM-1:
Tube amp. Uses Alps-27 Pots. Designed using a K501, HD-580, HD-600, and HD-650. So I assume it won't fair that well with low impedance headphones, but that's just a guess I'm making here.
Price: 1600 Yuan, or $200 USD, if you purchase 5 or more units the price drops to 1500 Yuan a pop.

Price: 1880 Yuan, or $237 USD.

Small, smaller, smallest. Beyond that there is the Minibox D. Doesn't look like a very advanced amp but it is tiny. I want one.
Price: Don't know.

How good can these pocket amps get? This looks like one serious amp in one very small package. I'm amazed at what they can cram into such a small case.
Price: 968 Yuan, or $122 USD.

Mini EPH
Another pocket amp.
Under 32 ohms loads outputs about 350MW
Under 64 ohms loads outputs about 490MW
Under 300 ohms loads outputs about 300MW
Price: 260 Yuan, or $32 USD. WOW! Seriously, this price caught me offguard.

Added some prices and added alot of items. Split in two posts since I'm not allowed to place so many images in a single post. I'm seeing if the chinese man from which I bought my amp can help me find an english speaking contact on the forum.

Neat stuff... If you can find any more info on that Yu Long Crystal DAC I would appreciate it. Looks interesting.

It is 220V... I wonder if there is a 110/115V version?
We need a chinese speaking head-fi'er to check out audio-sz.com as it looks like this can also be purchased as a DIY kit.
cool.gif

There are some pics of the internals here. Looks like it uses the CS8414-CS DAC chip... anyone know anything about it? Can't get a good look at the OP amps on the board, though they start with 'OPA'. I wonder if they are used for the output stage or as a buffer?

EDIT: Actually, I think the CS-8414-CS is the reciever chip... the DAC is a CS-43122-KS. [Datasheet]

EDIT2: Things I would like to find out: Is it a switching or linear PSU? What voltage does it need? [Would be interesting if it took 12V or could be modded to take 12V easily for SLA battery power] Is the output stage balanced straight from the DAC?

That's entirely too much info to sort out in a hurry.

The prices are frighteningly low. Now SQ and stability remain to be discovered.

Forget 56k alert. How about Cable Modem/DSL/T1 alert?!!!

Thanks for the posting work, in addition to the discoveries.

I'll update this as I translate it bit by bit. Sorry if it takes a while because I'm not used to reading simplified Chinese.

I think you can DIY:

This is for the Version 5 of the dac.

My understanding of this is that you can't purchase the parts/boards individually. You can only purchase either package 1 or package 2 plus opamps. I can't understand the rest. However, it appears that what he has to say is very important. Please could someone translate it for me.

Looks like they've sold out already. I just read the title of the thread

Another fun site that I found searching for more info on the YULONG Crystal DAC:

I tried translating through babelfish, unfortunately the results leave a little to be desired:
"The ear puts the decoding"
"Has a fever the primary device"
"Quality goods inferior goods"
...etc...
biggrin.gif

This thread has some pictures of the 'Crystal II pure armor class transistor earphone amplifier' along with some shots of the 'Gemini DAC'. Apparently you get a hot asian girl with every amp.

On the eBay link, it says OPA627B. Interesting!

I know you want to Zapfilter that,
