Oh, Yeah Man! I had a wonderful session this morning with the Man, Bob Marley, for some Jamaican flavors. VC modded, Cossor GZ37, RT EL39 and TS 6SL7 Tall Glass.

That Cossor GZ37 is actually a Mullard GZ37. Cossor "GZ37" is more correctly a 53KU / CV378 and it is "fatter" with rounded base. :)

I really like EL38, EL39 and EL3N. Combined with either STC 5A/152M or C3G, they make great sound to my ears. The only 2 amps that I really enjoy with the Senn HD 800 family are the Super UltimatE and DNA Sonett 2.

I used to own 3 pairs 5998, sold 2 and keep1 for WA22. They are very hard to find now, luckily I still have a pair of WE 221A and 1 pair of Cetron (TS) 7236 as back up.
The 5998 is hard to find, and even harder to find at a reasonable price. I have two - one from Stavros in Greece, and one from a Canadian seller. Also 10 Tung Sol 7236. However, haven't yet found an amp where I prefer these tubes.

Even though I retired 7 years ago, 24 hours a day is not enough to enjoy the audio gear.
That is why I am still working, to keep the "honey do" list short.

Well you have an amp now guaranteed to do justice to those tubes and it's call Ultimate 6AS7 or as Lory say AS. Gosh I hate both names.

10 Tung Sol 7235? !!! Could we somehow trade some tubes?

Half a day without listening to music with my setup and I am twitching. How did I keep away for 3 months.
.... easier to do when an ocean / gulf / bay separates you from the tubes-n-tunes .... besides, you were with good company!

True but all is well when I power on Ultimate and Odyssey.

Odyssey - Cossor 53ku, Telefunken EL11 and RT EL39
Ultimate - Tesla EZ81, Telefunken ECC801S and Mullard EL38

Both sound very good with HD800 but Odyssey bass is more abundant.

I have just started to enjoy my tube amps. Since the 13th Aug 2021 when Odyssey arrived, there has been a flurry of excitement and activities. Following Odyssey, there was Telemachus that was meant to be. . Eventually there was Ultimate. Prior to Odyssey there was Oblivion.

Looking back, my journey was a fast moving train. It has arrived at the station now. Time to just enjoy the music.

My journey takes a different approach than you, Matt. . Start with all the metal tubes, RCA 5Z4, RCA 6J5 and GE 6V6 with one of the best male vocals, Steve Perry.

The conversation Mordy had with Eric was regarding parallel drivers. Is it better to use 2 dual triodes in parallel vs a single dual triode.

Eric's response - it is ideal to use a driver with sufficient gain (mu) and also low internal plate resistance (Ri). Low Ri denotes a more linear tube. Not all driver with high gain has low Ri. For example:-

12AX7 with high gain (mu=100) but the Ri is also high at 62k - high gain is good for the driver tube but the Ri is a very high.
12AU7 with lower gain (mu=20) but Ri is LOW at 7K - low Ri at 7K is good but the gain is a bit low.

To parallel a driver tube of high Ri will halve the Ri but the gain remains i.e. parallel the twin triodes in a 12AX7 will halve the Ri to 31K but the gain remains at 100. This is the benefit of paralleling dual triodes.

He then go on to say that 12AX7 is actually not suitable as a driver tube, it is an input tube to handle small signal.

So where space allows on the chassis, it is beneficial to have parallel 6sn7 / 12au7 or any dual triodes. However if you're happy with what you hear with your single dual triode, don't lose sleep over this. :)

Eric then goes on to say that the BEST driver tube is high gain and low Ri. He use EC86 (high mu=68; low Ri=5.6K). Also 6S3P. 6S4P, 6S45P, as well as 12AT7 and 5687.

5687 is featured here and is a dual triode whereas EC86 is a single triode. https://vinylsavor.blogspot.com/2020/12/tube-of-month-5687.html

There are no adapter for 6S45P yet and it's cousin the 6C45 is the driver tube (quad) for Woo Audio WA33.
