What if it were the Fivre 6V6G driving Tesla El34? Would Mozart still sound like Mozart or would Mozart sound like Beethoven?
The Fivre are a bit warmer, nicely convey emotion but can't match the GEC's for overall refinement. The GEC's are detailed yet still so musical. Both composers would approve. What if it were the Fivre 6V6G driving Tesla El34? Would Mozart still sound like Mozart or would Mozart sound like Beethoven?
BTW the recording quality on Yundi's Mozart is spectacular, really wonderful sound and performances.

I have a similar type 6AS7 amp with just two tubes. As Eric how the 6AS7 amp would sound with a 6528 or 6336 tube. (I know that it is not designed for 5A current draw, but it is easy enough to add external power.) -In my amp it made a huge difference for the better.
In my experience with GOTL, 6336 isn't better sounding than a 5998. It is good but not better. They do not even sound the same as some claimed. Nothing sound like a 5998. 5998 in Ultimate 6AS7 has even more resolution and punch.
This 5998 that I bought from Langrex years ago would hum badly on Darkvoice and La Figaro 339 but is now totally quiet on Ultimate 6AS7. A mystery to me. I had a better pair of 5998 which I sold off with the WA22.

@VanHai you are using some of the best tubes in my opinion. EL38 and EL39 can become the daily power tubes. If STC 5A/152M is as good as c3g, that would be a very resolving driver. TS 6SL7 is also nice.
I still have TFK ECC801S and EL38 on my Ultimate. It's a great combination.

That is how the rack looks now. Crowded House. Odyssey is the amp by which I measure other amps. Still sounding golden.

I really like EL38, EL39 and EL3N. Combined with either STC 5A/152M or C3G, they make great sound to my ears. The only 2 amps that I really enjoy with the Senn HD 800 family are the Super UltimatE and DNA Sonett 2.@VanHai you are using some of the best tubes in my opinion. I used to own 3 pairs 5998, sold 2 and keep1 for WA22. They are very hard to find now, luckily I still have a pair of WE 221A and 1 pair of Cetron (TS) 7236 as back up.This 5998 that I bought from Langrex years ago would hum badly on Darkvoice and La Figaro 339 but is now totally quiet on Ultimate 6AS7. You ever get anything done around the house with so many audio gear to play with? Super Ultimate is REALLY good with HD800. I had thought previously that Oblivion is great with HD800 but Ultimate is even better. Odyssey is superb too. It's the only reason I am still keeping HD800.

Spring just arrived here 2 weeks ago. I need to move my *ss outside to take care of the yard and the house that has been neglected. Even though I retired 7 years ago, 24 hours a day is not enough to enjoy the audio gear. You ever get anything done around the house with so many audio gear to play with? It is funny that a local YouTube guy (he reviews IEMs) came to my house with his Senn HD800s and had an audition with DNA Sonett 2 and said "I am going to save my money for a DNA amp". Last Feb, I organized a local meeting and I quote what another guy said:
"This is probably the first time I actually enjoyed any of the HD8-series headphones. I had tried the 800S or 800 four times previously, and each time I was disappointed with the soft-sounding transients and tinny tonality. All 4 prior demoes were on solid-state gear though. I have yet to try out an OTL on the HD800, but this modded 8xx on the Sonnett 2 had thicker bass (in a good way) and generally richer tonality."

I have a dilemma. Do I remove the Mundorf or the Miflex to be replaced by the vintage cap?
Meanwhile I have UltimatE and 6as7 amp going head to head and toe to toe.
UltimatE - Tesla EZ81, Telefunken ECC801S, EL38 ($3500 for amp)
6as7 amp - RCA 6BW4, Amperex 12AX7, Tung Sol 5998 ($1600 for amp)
Both lovely sounding. Both diamonds glistening in the sun. The 5998 is the best I've heard in any amps that uses 5998 and that includes Euforia, La Figaro 339i, WA22 and Glenn OTL. Amazing sounding amp and it will be a long term loan - like 20 years.
What do you call the 6as7 amp? Eric suggested UltimatE 6AS7.
I happen to have a two-tube amp that uses a 6AS7 and a 12AU7 or similar tubes. This amp benefitted vey much from the 6528/6336 tubes. Since the McChanson 6AS7 amp has a similar layout, I mentioned this.In my experience with GOTL, 6336 isn't better sounding than a 5998. It is good but not better. As you point out, the 6336 did not make much of a difference in the GOTL
It is around 3 in the afternoon and it got dark outside - a solar eclipse. I still remember my first solar eclipse in 1954 as a child - they turned on the street lights briefly.
