Eric McChanson Headphone Amp??

And as promised the completed input variable heater modification fully internal - very tight squeeze getting that converter flush and mounted securely - I am sure, the 'Super' Ultimate with the larger chassis, this would haven't been much of an issue - a couple pictures of how the step up/down converter is mounted to the amp - can go from 1.5V - 36V for the input only.

Internally, there is a small rectifier responsible for rectifying the 6.3VAC to DC, which connects to the input of the converter, and its outputs are routed to the heater wires of the input tube. Simple really - the hardest part by far was getting the hole cut out in the metal chassis with only a hand drill and a dremel :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

Well thankfully, my wallet has already seen the brunt from odd heater tubes .. have a good collection which I acquired due to my other amp. Hopefully my wallet comes out of this nearly unscathed. Wish me luck:sweat_smile:
As all Ultimate owners know, this amp sings with obscure and cheap tubes.
ATM less than $25 in tubes sounds magnificent…
Sometimes I read about Woo owners and I just can’t get over what people spend on tubes.

I know exactly what you mean man. Once I get above $10/per, I get hesitant, and anything $20/per or more is almost completely off limits to me outside of a few circumstances.

In order to curtail tube purchases I set a limit of $8/tube including shipping. There are always exceptions, but in general I am able to hold the line although it usually entails buying a couple of tubes because of the shipping costs.

Unfortunately for us Aussie's with our crap exchange rate and distance from anywhere , cheap tubes are a rarity !! I regularly have to spend $20-$50 just on postage :rage:

I got a buddy in Australia and ya man, you guys got it pretty bad in regards to tubes, unless you can find deals within country - I would already be homeless if I lived in Australia, probably the reason God put me here

Tesla EZ81, Visseaux 6K6GTG, Western Electric 2C51A-396A, Tesla EL34. Beautiful sound from either driver, Visseaux's a little sweeter, WE's a bit more technically adept. Both are winners driving the Tesla EL34.

Looking back at your older posts I saw you have also ran the EL11 as power tubes - how do you like those and are they still in your rotation?

Your meter is correctly showing 257.1 millivolts, indicated by the small 'm' at the top center of the display. What voltage is it you're trying to measure?
