has anyone tried this? I know it wouldnt help the sound much but has anyone tried it before? When I hook up my er4p's to the supermini and turn it past a certain level, the bass starts getting distorted. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yes, I have. I didn't see too much of an improvement over an unamped er-4P, little more bass, but pretty much sounds the same (to me). Wish I'd tried the 4S though . . .
