Well, since my ears are feeling pretty much normal today I decided to do some testing.
First I tried the regular setup with the Icon Mobile and started feeling fatigue after only 5 minutes of listening.
I then tried taking the Icon Mobile out of the loop and ran directly out of the laptop headphone jack to the MiniBox. No problem at all, no fatigue.
Next, I confirmed my finding by running off my desktop machine to the Zhalou and then to the MiniBox. Again, no problem. I'm still listening as I type this.
In conclusion, the Icon Mobile paired with the ER-4Ps are just not my cup of tea. The bright on bright is just way too much for my ears. Thanks Mark for confirming that the DAC might be the problem!
Now I just have to find a different DAC that will be a little less forward/bright in presentation. I'm still open to suggestions if anyone is still following this thread. Otherwise I'll be posting a new thread for some help finding something that will work better for me.
