I ( and i think many others too) would be curious about purrin's thoughts about abyss ab1266 with ec 4-45.

me to I am very interested to know

ABYSS + EddieCurent 445 = Good synergy or... not enough power/authority from the Tube Amp ?

Mine player (totaldac) has 5 V output and i hear abyss with 445 at max 12:00. I would say 445 has enough power to destroy the abyss

5 V output is really not a standard value !   normal output value for a DAC is 2 V !  can't this very high fixed 5 V générate distorsion in the 445 ?

Why don't you instead put the 445 volume pot at MAX (Craig told me this is how the volume pot is removed from the circuit: he wrote to me : " If you turn the 445 volume full clockwise it becomes a shunt resistor, and won’t contribute to the sound. " ) and then use the volume from the TotalDAC instead.  (in addition, You will also get a remote controled volume) ?

I regularly use Abyss and HD800. Not an issue.

and which one you prefer with the 445 ?

In other words, with the 445, what is the reason to use booth instead of just the ABYSS ?

I like the overall tone, bass quality, and transient response of the Abyss.
Sometimes I like the Abyss on the Rag.
I like the resolution and comfort of the HD800.
It all depends upon mood.

Black covers IMHO?

Have you tried a QBD 76 instead of the Hugo yet?

OK FOR BLACK :)

No I have not tried QBD76.  If I will take another Chord DAC, I will wait for the new version of QBD that is supposed to include some HUGO technologies in a desktop higher-end package.

I am now leaning toward a TotalDac D1-Dual.  Just need to save some money for it...

looks great with the covers - do you like the Hugo with it? Is it too lean sounding with the 445 do you think?

I am really looking forward to the new Chord statement DAC, I'm hoping its a sub 5K DAC - I don't think I could push too much more than that.
