Hey,
I hope it's not against the forum rules to discuss prices, if so let me know and I'll remove this.

I heard a Stax setup at a recent meet and can't get it out of my head. New, it's out of my price range, but am considering used, but as these come up fairly rarely on the For Sale page, it's hard for me to get an idea on prices. If anyone can give me some ballpark numbers on used gear I'd really appreciate it as it would help me decide if this is a current reality or a "hopefully someday" type purchase.

What I heard was a SR-202 and 4070 both played out of SRM-006t and SRM-727.

I really preferred the 202's and have learned that I'll probably only find these in the 2050 or older 2020 package.

Anyone know what a reasonable price for a used 2050/2020 package is going for these days?

What about a SR-Lambda / SRM-1 package?

Or any other recommendations (along with prices) would be great, i.e. the 2050 isn't worth it - step up to the 3050 package, etc...

Also, will the 2050/2020 package get me anywhere close to what I heard with the SR-202 / SRM-727 setup, or is it all in the amp? If so, how much would a used 727 and/or 006t run?

Thanks for the info - hoping to be able to join "Team Stax" sooner rather than later.

UK price for the 2020 on ebay seems to float at about £200-£220. In the good old days, this would be $400-$440.

What the fluctuations are in real prices now I don't know. Similar for bluebook.

A bit more for the 2050.

No idea what the Head-Fi FSForums rate is. I shouldn't expect anyone apart from Greenhorn trying to climb up to $1000.

I had my second "moment of head-fi clarity" with the 2020 rig.

After that I was doomed to move to the O2.

In a few years. I will have a BH. Stax for life.

not just Stax, but any headphones around here. So if you are happy with your purchase, stop visiting headfi for a while.

Where are you located? Different prices for different parts of the world. A 2050 system in Japan can be had for about $430+ US. In the US, about 40-50% more, with used systems in US going for the price of new ones in Japan if not higher. Fortunately I'll be over there (Japan) in a week

If you're in my area of the US, perhaps I could pick something up...

A used 006t? I seem to recall one on ebay a few weeks ago that went for $800 or so. Back in January I picked up a used 006t/404 combo on ebay for $900 (and minus a 8% Bing discount). So you'd do better with a 2050 system $$ wise.

When I first listened to Stax I was really impressed with the 2050 system (it was my favorite of the 2050, 3030, and 4040 systems), so I am looking to come home with one when I head to Tokyo. It will be a nice little brother to the 006t/404 combo.

I got the portables (sr001mk2) a couple of months ago and love them to bits. I got mine on sale at my local Stax dealer for $199 CAD!
I love the sound they make and even though I have just been gifted some K701'a and love those as well there is something a bit more special about the stax sound!

Ahhh - the lure of Stax. From day one when I bought the SR-5/SRD-7 combo I was hooked, quickly went on the SR-X/Mark 3 and then I got the SR-Lambdas (normal bias) with the SRM-1/MK-2 Version C amp and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Now I'm waiting on my 404's in the mail - ah the sound of Stax - there is no other.

I've been looking into trying a Stax setup. What's a good price for a SR-5/SRD-7 combo?

You don't need a SRD7 for the SR5...SRD6 will sound the same and cost a good amount less. The SR5/SRD6 combo can probably had for about $150 or less.

You can go for SRS-2050A for $508 shipped from seyo-shop.com. It's $480 + $25 shipped to the States.

They are doing good so far, for me. Great communication. I'm waiting for mine. It should be delivered within the next week.

I'm in Canada, so thanks for the offer, but I'm guessing you picking me up one while in Japan wouldn't work out.

Jon,
Not sure where you are located in the great white north but Commercial electronics here in Vancouver are the local Stax dealer and that is where I got mine from on sale! Might be worth phoning them to see what they have and what is on sale!
