Oh well. I suppose that's the price I pay for being one of the first adopters.

I woudn't be surprized if E-MU came out with a card that wipes the floor with this one. In the upcoming months that is.

Well i know this isn't the best place to post this but:

Do any of you new 1212m owners care to part with your 0404 cards? PM me.

P.S. Pass on the savings!

does the main card have RCA outputs that would be suitable for connecting the card to a headphone amp?

The EMU1212M does not have any analog RCA outputs AFAIK. The main card holds the digital I/O and the daughter card the analog. The analog outputs are the in the form of 1/4" mono jacks. To connect the sound card to a headphone amp with RCA inputs you will need 2 1/4"->RCA adaptors and an RCA cable or a 1/4" mono to RCA cable. I plan on making my own cables out of Canare connectors and Canare Starquad. The 6ft cable will be about $15 in parts.

I wouldn't bother. An internal soundcard can only go so far.

Yeah, back up to $199 now. My order supposedly shipped already so I am happy. Sorry to all of you who missed out. I was considering buying a few more and ebaying them, but didn't get a chance to.
