Vinyl -> A&H Mixer -> Headphile BlackSilver IC -> Gilmore Lite, sounds fantastic.

then I change back to my usual setup:

Vinyl -> A&H Mixer -> Mogami Gold Series Balanced IC -> EMU 1212m -> Headphile BlackSilver -> Gilmore Lite, and the sound is noticably less detailed.

The question is, what is degrading the signal? If it's the Mogami, perhaps I could replace it with something like this? Or is the EMU degrading the signal by converting it to digital and back to analog? Thanks for any advice!

It's a DJ rig. I'm recording mixes.

No...because then I can't play anything in foobar. Perhaps I need to install the ASIO module?

Do you know if the 1212m converts incoming analog to digital no matter what? If that is the case, I guess I'll go from my mixer -> Gilmore Lite instead.

is the output from the mixer balanced?
are the inputs set to have balanced input? (click on the "O" above the FX area, between the fx and V butons, and go to I/O)

Yes and yes. This is definitely a quality, not gain problem.
