When attaching the emu 0404 usb to an amp at what setting do you put the main output. I know the manual says a setting a little less than 12 o clock for unbalanced cables, but i wanted to know what you guys used. Is a max setting asking for distortion? BTW i am using a mini headphone out to rca cables attached to my little dot mk III.

The manual says that? Never noticed that and I have read the manual. I set mine to max and have never noticed any distortion at all. Jan Meyer of Meyer audio says that Windows audio and output should be set to max and let the amp handle the volume. He says if you set the volume below max then it affects dynamic range.

it says that on the paper manual that it comes with. But i could be totally misinterpreting what that means. The line out is the main output right? what I meant by the headphone out cable was that i was connecting this to the line out and then to my amp.

In your computer you get best results when everything is maxed.. thus no bits are lost. Some direct streamers like ASIO don't even allow you to change volume in digital section AFAIK.

But I understood you asked the volume of output section of the EMU box. You can try different options -- there might be distortion around, but that may be minimal. Use your ears.
