electrostats and... health

I believe cell phones are 'potentially' dangerous, or at least are claimed to because their upper operating frequencies are approaching those of microwaves.

In either case, the operating frequencies of electrostats, or any headphones, those which affect the electromagnetic field are far lower than any that could be potentially considered dangerous. So there's absolutely no question of risk.

I remember Focal tweeters have much more 'teslas' (not really sure whether that's the correct magnetic field strength unit) so what would be the ballpark tesla figure when you said "magnetic field strong enough to cause any kind of problems with a mammal would be so strong that headphones with such a field would tear themselves apart." ?

Well, the earth's magnetic field (at the surface of the earth) runs around 30,000 nT. The fact that headphones' magnetic fields are oscillating makes them more potentially harmful, but even Ultrasone's "maximum" headphone magnetic field is less than a tenth the value of the magnetic field we live in all our lives. Take that for what it's worth.

I doubt any kind of speakers could produce enough magnetic field to be dangerous - the only place I can think of that people really worry about it are within about 20 meters of long-range transmission power lines, which often run above 100 kilovolts and may transmit thousands of amperes of current.
