= Holy Eggos!!!

I bought a used pair of d66 eggos from matheis a week ago. I've used them everyday since I got them. I loved them but I definitely noticed the lack of bass, having come from the koss ksc75 previously. Well, this morning I did BowerR64's bass mod with the little hole in the membrane on the cups... wow! This is just awsome. I really see no need other than a little more portability to go back to the koss clip-ons.

... I just had to express how enjoyable my new old headphones have become. If you want more info about the mod, here you go:

This makes no sense! The diaphragm serves to allow sound from the outside to be heard (for safety reasons) but it is still a 'sealed' system. I added some cotton to the bowls of my D-77's to damp some of the high frequencies, which allows the bass to sound more prominent. That's the way to modify eggos. Putting a hole in the diaphragm is the worst thing you can do!

How can you say whats good/bad when something such as this is completely subjective?? If he / she likes what theyre hearing, thats all that matters.

To the OP... congrats on finding a mod solution youre happy with.

Ugh! The physics is all wrong! Opening the hole changes the carefully-balanced resonance. It's all wrong! Damping the chamber is much better! It subtracts the brightness due to the reflections withing the plastic chamber...giving a more balanced sound...

Stuffing a little cotton into the chamber does not affect the resonance frequency, but absorbs the higher frequencies more than the lower. It also reduces the background leakage through the diaphragm.
