I remember Thomas Mayer himself said that the 300B wouldn't be his first choice for a tube preamp.

Pairing is key. I think with BA you give up on image focus, subbass, bass focus and bass quantity. You gain mid transparency, DHT magic and larger and deeper soundstage. Between my solid state and BA I go back and forth on preference depending on the song. That DHT enhanced voice really sucks you in though

But as headphone amp it’s pretty awesome. However, I believe Aficionado has better price to performance ratio, after taking into account the $$$$ I spent on Elrog and Takatsuki

Have you tried feeding your SS amp with the ECBA's preamp out?

I'm currently having a lot of fun with the KR PX25, it can even somewhat drive the RAAL Immanis in this configuration although the bass is not as well controlled as the Feliks Envy.

My speaker amp is solid state and I am using ECBA to drive that. I have not tried solid state headphone amp - partly because one of my CFA3 has developed some dc offset issue and another one is still in production and my third CFA3 is at another location.

I have tried EC amp as preamp driving CFA3 and what you get is a mix of the two traits: not quite the DHT magic but with better bass control and sub bass quantity.

I tried using the ECBA (with Elrog MO and Melz 1578 driver, probably the most neutral tube setup possible) as preamp to feed into my custom GS-X mk2 for the Immanis but I seem to prefer driving the Immanis directly using the PX25/Mullard ECC32 setup. It's not as well controlled and grippy as the ECBA/GS-X mk2 setup but the overall sound is more enjoyable.

I would like to complete my 445 with a Balancing Act, especially with the GRADO HP100 that I just acquired. I have also always been a FAN of the look of the BA....
