Thoes are old generalities and I doubt stand as true as they feabily once did. I think Eddie Current, Single Power, Ray Samules and countless other modern amp makers have provin it is more in the quality of build and superior electrical design that defines how good any headphone amp will sound for Grado's. For every OTL amp that sounds bad with Grado's, there is one OTL that will sound very good with Grado's as it was built with lower source resistance. Our modern amp makers of today do not follow simple standard designs of yesteryear. Being the current sole owner of the Zana Duex, I can vouch for it's greatness in sound with the Grado's, as well as the unconventional tube and design architecture for an OTL. All the great qualities that go to make up a world class headphone amplifier stand true, in resounding resemblance, to the magnificant Zana Duex, an OTL amplifier supreme, and good for just about all headphones. Things are changing BABY.

I am really intrigued by this amp as a second amp for the house. Anyone know if those tube types have NOS equivilants? I would prefer not to have to go sovtek and while EH are good for new tubes they have not compared with some of the used/nos tubes I have tried.
Hope the SoCal show goes great and can't wait to hear impressions.

I have been researching tubes for a couple years now and I have yet to see a nos drop in equivalent for the 6n6p. The 6n3p has several equivalents. The main problem is that its hard to find any information on these tubes in English.

The best sound I ever heard on the Grado RS-1's is the Zana Duex, and it is OTL. The reason transformer coupled amps in general sound better on the Grado's is because of their lower source resistance. As an example the HD300 had a source out of 120 ohms, and the HD25 was 20 ohms. The Zana D is 11 ohms. The Grados need to be damped to sound good, and any amp with a higher source out than the Grado's 32 ohm nominal impedance will not sound so great.

Thanks for the information. I wish they still made the HD25

I like the no frills look. It's all about the SQ baby!!
Looking forward to the impressions for SoCal.

From the first pic, looks like it would break-in the HD6xx's headband nicely.
