While I never actually listened to it much, it looked, felt, sounded much like the D-33 in my limited listening to both units. Many people here have rated the D-33 over the D-25S, which has a pretty high stature here, as well.. So personally, I think this would have been a pretty good deal for someone in the market for such a player. (Especially being NIB and all).

In theory maybe, but I don't think you can generalize that. So far I have two 1bit Sonys, the D-99 and the D-303, and it doesn't seem to hurt either of them at all...
A direct comparison between two otherwise identical players could be very interesting...why don't you get a 33 to keep your 34 company and tell us how they sound?

If the D34 sounds as close to the 33 as vwap says, then I think you've got a good deal.
