Hi, I was looking for an open analytical heaphone. The problem is I only have an old fiio e10 to drive them, so I'm assuming that the k701 is out of the question (even if they're really cheap atm)
Is there an alternative to the k701? I'm in Europe so an european brand would be better, since usually are cheaper that the imported ones.

Anyway, thanks.

Forgot to say, I owned a pair of Alessandro MS1 - which I really disliked - Sennheiser 598 and Beyer DT990

FiiO E10 will drive the K701 just fine.
Happy Listening!

The E10 will work well enough - not that welll but it definitely won't be unlistenable - until you can get another amp. I'd be more worried about earpad wear actually. If you're trying to do all this on the cheap, can you afford the $90 asking price for new earpads from AKG?

I've used the AKG K702 with FiiO E10 many times and it worked very well, even in Low Gain setting.
It's true that these AKGs will scale with better (and more expensive) gear but the E10 makes a great job for the money.

I had my K702 for a year and a half and by the time I sold them the earpads were in mint condition.
These earpads are stiffer than Senn HD6x0's and thus less prone to flatten. Still pricey though.

I was thinking about the DT880, but aren't those too similar to the DT990?

No.

DT880 is a neutralish headphone, while DT990 is a v-shaped one.
DT990 is considerably brighter, and has much more mid-bass.

DT880 is close to K701/2 in terms of frequency response:

DT880 is sharper and has smaller soundstage than the AKGs.
All in all the Beyer is a bit more neutral, but the AKG offers a more layered presentation that's very nice for critical listening.
