With 128mb ram anything based on GNOME or KDE might be too much, so I'd recommend Xubuntu (which fails to boot) or maybe Fedora with the Xfce graphical environment.
As it was also mentioned, puppy linux and DSL are good alternatives. They will undoubtedly run faster, but are also lighter on features.

Again, you'll need to use the command-line installer from the alternative install disk. The graphical installer requires 192MB of RAM.
Do you have a ATI card? Try selecting a VGA resolution rather than just booting. Also if you're using DVI try VGA, mine didn't work with DVI. I thought maybe would work with VGA and it did, once I installed ATI restricted drivers DVI output worked.
