I know its generally agreed that headphones sound far better than earphones at the same price, but I'd just feel better if someone could reaffirm this for me before I discount earphones altogether. I'm particularly interested in the lower end, such as:

Soundmagic vs KSC75

or

Yuins and low end Ultimate Ears/Shure/Etymotic vs the benchmark PortaPros and PX100s.

I was particularly motivated to make this post after reading so many positive reviews about the PK2/PK3, and noticing for the first time that UE/Shure/Etymotic made affordable stuff after lusting after their uber expensive models in years past.

Thanks

IEMs offer a degree of isolation and intimacy that headphones cannot, IMHO. I've probably derived as or more listening enjoyment with IEMs like the Ety ER-4S and UE Super.fi 5Pro than with any other headphones I've heard.

I prefer the PK1 to most headphones under $1000. Can't stand IEMs because of the inconvenience of inserting/removing them.
