Earphone adapter makes sound less good?

Hi there, Ive got a simple question for you. As student, this audio hobby is very hard for me money wise, which means I have to be very careful on my equipment. Now I do not have any portable gear to write home about, but hey, it costed me all quite a bit and I would like to keep them alive!
Hence the question. The Sennheiser HD 205 uses a straight plug, which is unfortunate for listening on the go. I use a cable winder already, so that 9ft/3m cable is only 3ft/1m now (which is great to use in public).

I cant really think of a drop in quality, I think one would need a very good headphone to hear differences, but Im not sure. Therefore the question, I hope you dont mind!

Unless the cable is so poorly made that there is obvious build, shielding, or solder issues there is no reason an adapter will hurt the sound quality in any major or audible way.

i hear that you are scared you dont want to ruin the cable on your headphones..
but if you dont place the cord into something like a small plastic box.. then the extension cord is going to be tugging on the end because of the extra weight.
 
i guess what one could do is wrap up the original cord to note how big of a box you need..
then put some holes in the box for the wires to come out of.. and then wrap each cord with something to keep it from rubbing on the hole until it cuts into the cord.
that way you've got safety going into the box of the original cord, and out the other end is the extension cable also wrapped to prevent the hole from cutting into the cord.
and then the connection from the original cord to the extension wont be suffering from weight hanging onto it because it is tucked away in the box.
 
and seriously.. you dont even need a generic plastic box, you could fold up some cardboard (or something similar) and wrap it with something.
the point is to keep the weight off of the connection from the extra cord hanging.
 
it isnt impossible to note a difference with a new cord.. but that is a matter of build quality from the new cord.
