I'm a postie and I currently use Koss Porta-Pro's but these don't cut it in the middle of a January winter for helping keep my ears warm. So I'm looking for recommendations for full coverage phones that give as good if not better sound than my Porta-pro's and for under $100.

Thanks

AKG K81DJ, while supraural. cover my ears quite nicely. Grados with bowl pads might work aswell, though cold wind covers all sound coming from them.

You may want to consider some closed, supra-aural cans? I don't think there's any real risk for open cans in the winter (I used my Grados last winter with no ill effects), but the wind passes right through them. A closed set of cans would double up rather nicely as a pair of earmuffs.

Could you keep the Koss and bung on some 414 pads?

Open headphones WON'T work well here.

Closed headphones work best. The Beyer DT770, and DT250 are terrific for this purpose.

x2... DT770s all the way. Its like having a little warm, toasty house for each ear.

Last year during the Subway workers strike, I had to walk 5 miles in the freezing bitter NYC winter to my office from my house in brooklyn. The DT770 kept my ears super toasty... they are by far the most comfortable / warm earmuffs I've ever owned.

x4. DT770's keep my ears from being frozen off on campus.

I am currently using the HD280 as my winter headphones. The sound is decent and it is very warm, literally...Build quality? Not sure yet, only been using them as portables for 2 months. We'll see how they hold up once it starts snowing hard.
