E4c compared to E5c?

Looking at the reviews for the E5c, they seem pretty good (hey, I'd say they were too if I spent $500 on earphones) but sadly I'm on a budget. I then looked at the E4c as the next best thing but I can't find any comparisons with the E5c; all I see is E3c comparisons. I keep getting mixed reviews from crappy bass and SQ to "the best IEMs out there for the price".

If anyone has a pair of E4c, can you tell me what you dislike and like about them. Is it true that the bass is really bad? And also, how bad do you hear the cables when you walk or move around?

I'd say the bass on the e4c is better than the e5c. Also the e5c has more emphasis on the treble. The e4c has a good tonal balance. Nothing really sticks out, maybe the mids a little. So i like to listen to the e4c on my ipod with the rock setting, boosting the bass and treble a little. Overall, i prefer the e4c to the e5c. Best thing i like about the e4c is the articulation is very very tight and crisp.

I own the E4C and gave the E5C to my girlfriend as a gift. We both seem to like the E5C more. To my ears, the E5C has boomier bass and has higher clarity in the high ends. Just my two cents.

I would defently have to agree with you on that aspect.

Ive used both e4c and Westone UM2s which are very similar to the e5c's - to my ears the UM2's are better in everyway! e4c just didnt have enough bass for my liking - I perfer my clingfilm-modded ex90's to the e4c's

You could always check out the for sale forum, put up a "Want to buy" thread. Another option is saving up a bit more and later buying a pair of Westone UM2's.

Seriously, I have owned the Shure E2c's, E3c's and E5c's, (my friend will soon own the Shure E4's, so I will be able to ask for a listen) and the E3c's just cannot compare to the E5c's in terms of sound extension. It just sounds much more fuller, it filled in the parts I was missing with my E3c's. I took the slow road, buying and selling my earphones, and now I just bought a pair of Shure E500's which I cannot wait to listen to, the stock buds make me cry.

It's been over a year since I wrote that review... After living with all of them for so long I find myself using the 5 Pro the most often. This is the result of a few things: 1) I got the UE-10 shortly there after and I am quite used to their "house sound" now and like it very much. 2) Silicone tips are much easier to deal with than foam when on the go. The 5 Pro sounds great with the silicone tips, the E4 and E5 suffer significantly from using the silicone tips. 3) The 5 Pros just go on and off really quickly and are really easy to use for out and about use.

Honestly, I've really grown to like the 5 Pro and use them as often as my UE-10s when I'm out and about. Straight off the 5th Gen iPod, they sound fantastic!

Don't get me wrong, I still like the E5 and E4... It just seems that I don't use them very much anymore. I sometimes use the E5 when going to bed because they're very durable and its not a problem if you happen to roll on your side. I still love the E4 with my home rig, but in most cases, I can't find reason to choose it over the UE-10.

Just grab the 5 Pro, I think you'll really like them.

...of course if you could find a way to spring for the E500...
