The E3 lacks detail in the upper end and it is perfect for those who are sensitive to highs. The E3 could be of use for me if I had a source that were naturally bright and bass heavy. As far as equing is concerned, I do some amount of equing to my etymotics depending on the source. When the source is the Karma, I use the EQ, but when I use the ipod shuffle, the sound is perfect and I am glad it is because it does not have an eq. I don't really like the E3. For the price, I wished it had more to offer in the area of clarity and bass.
