Has anyone here have experience with the Echo Indigo PCMCIA sound card. I am looking for the best pair of in-ear phones for this card.

So far I have been focusing on the E1C from Shure. Anyone out there who is using that combination. Would etymotic be a better match.

i haven't heard the shures but ety's usually seem prefered around here. er-4p with the converter cable to the er-4s seems to be almost universally loved if you don't mind a big piece of silicone jammed in your head. i personally have the er-6 and am very happy. not a whole lot of people here run echo indigos though.

I admittedly haven't tried the Echo Indigo (though I'd really like to) but I do have a AudioTrak Opto Play that is a USB 24bit/96khz soundcard/headphone amp that I'm very happy with. I've run it with my HD 590's, HD 280Pro's, PX200's, PX100's, and MX 500's. All of which sound really good when powered by the Opto Play. I got it for my laptop but since it puts my Audigy to shame I also use it for my tower.

Hm, I looked up the Optoplay and that is quite a different product.

I am pretty happy with the Echo Indigo and the sound rivals what I can get from the Earmax with the HD600 minus the tube sound. It actually drives the HD600 quite nicely and sounds very accurate.

It measures pretty well although not quite like a Benchmark Media DAC1 and comes with an analog volume control. It also supports true 44.1Khz and comes with an ASIO driver that bypasses the Windows kmixer problem.

If any of you own this card. What headphones are you using when you are traveling?

i will be receiving my e2cs on monday.

i believe that the reason etys are almost universally preferred is that, besides their obviously superior sound (and price tag

) is that for starters, relatively few ppl on this board own shures.

i have read numerous testimonials here that say the e2 beats the er6, and posts to the contrary are few and far between.

i will post my impressions on them compared to most, if not all, the headphones listed in my sig.

I have an Indigo. Love it. At home, I use a V6 or an SR-225.

On the road, I have both the E2C as well as the ER-6. Love them both too.

after a few days of using my e2s, all i can say is that they are fantastic.

Thomas, good question. Basically I use the Shures when I am commuting, and I use the Etys when I am sitting at my desk or in bed before I go to sleep.

The Shures are a lot sturdier, thicker cabling, MUCH better carry case, etc. These are definitely better for travelling, will take more abuse, etc.

But the Etys can go deeper into your ears and are more isolating. The problems with the harmonics with movement is irritating if you are commuting or walking.

I bought both because I wanted to try both and they are both great in different ways.
