So I was all set to get the X3 but I recently got the Galaxy s4. What would be a better solution between the x3 and getting the e17? All money goes to FiiO 8)

I think X3 will be more convenient as it will not consume your phone battery and has a better sound quality

Battery is a big one for me. SQ wise I figured it would be a wash so heating that definitely influences my decision

android kernel is limited to 16bit so you will limit yourself to 16bit files but in fact e17 can support up to 24/192.... with x3, u can just put the files in and enjoy music up to 24/192...
no debate on whether 24 bit is a myth or not, pls

So essentially it comes down to a battery life decision then?  SQ wise I should be about equivalent between the two.  UI for the phone is probably a little better.  There is the bonus with the E17 that I can use it with my computer as well.  Does the E17 draw power from the host device or does it have its own battery?

it has its own battery.. but i remember that the x3 amp section is enhanced over e17... if u must use your phone as transport, u can also wait for e18 which is designed for android

So I ended up getting the E17 and I've just been using it with my laptop while I'm at work.  I don't know much about using amps but I'm guessing that since my W3s are easy to drive that I don't actually need to set the gain above 0?  I need an OTG cable to use it with my S4 but I like that I've been able to use it with my laptop which is something I never even really thought about.
