Got a new E10 Olympus from Mp4nation today. Was very excited to get this baby and my expectations were met - a build quality, size and overall pleasant feel of this little DAC were just great. Disappointment, however, came in only a few minutes after the moment I've connected it to my PC.
After any sound is played using foobar2000 or MPC-HC I can hear a pretty substantial click. With Windows sounds enabled, for example, navigation using explorer would not be the most pleasant thing I'd say.
Does everyone have this issue with E10 or my unit is defective or something?
I'd rather have my XtremeGamer back if this clicking/crackling is the price I'd have to pay for using it. And I also know this will eventually drive me crazy.
ps. The issue is easily reproduced on my netbook as well.

Try playing around with the jack a bit and see if pulling the connector in and out just a bit fixes it.
 
The next thing is could be is the USB setup on your PC.  Try turning off power management for ALL USB hubs via:
Device Manager
Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Right Click on one of the USB ROOT HUBS
Power Management Tab
Turn Power Management OFF
Do this for all of the USB ROOT HUBS
 
If that does not work try another USB port particularly a USB 2.0 port not USB 3.0.
 
The last resort will be to add an externally powered USB HUB to the setup to better ground the USB port leading to the DAC.
 
Let us know what you find.

Try downloading WASAPI from the link below. Install it (file>preferences>components>install>select downloaded file) and select "WASAPI (event): Fiio E10" (it might not be the exact wording but it's similar) for the output in the foobar preferences. This will disable all Windows sounds except foobar to come through the DAC.

Tried pulling out jack a bit as well with no result; jack looks rock-solid on olympus version by the way.
Power management for for USB root hub's is disabled by default for me.
Have also tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, also an externally powered USB HUB.

I don't think this issue is particular to windows sounds or foobar. Click happens every time playback stops completely (not just paused) no matter the software used to play it.

I thought you were talking about the click when you open folders and such.  I think that's just the way it is. I don't remember it clicking after every sound, but it does when you pause a song or change songs while one is playing.

I still think it is USB related because with my m903 I get no clicking whatsoever running USB 2.0 in Windows 7 ( 64 bit ).

Do you have the ASIO drivers installed?  That will probably fix the issue.
 
Copy this to your Foobar Components folder:

Just tried both WASAPI and ASIO to no avail.
That's probably a E10 issue. Have tried googling this and found out some other people also had such problems with earlier E10 versions.
So it still persists through Olympus (v3). I guess I'll use 30 day moneyback while I still can.
